ZyWeb,
the do-it-yourself website builder from
Exeter based ZyNet has been selected
as part of a new ORIGINATION
project which is being managed by Channel
4 and sponsored by Culture Online called
ORIGINATION: INSITE,
a national initiative to celebrate the
experience and contribution of Britain's
incoming cultures.
In
a move to challenge stereotypes and
to encourage members of different communities
to voice their experiences, ORIGINATION:
INSITE offers a unique opportunity for
individuals and community groups to
spotlight and record - in their
very own websites - the experience
of their community or family’s
arrival in Britain and the positive
ideas, practices, talents and perspectives
they brought with them.

As
part of ZyWeb's ongoing commitment to
develop its online web page builder,
we embarked upon a project to make ZyWeb
and the websites that it produces, accessible
to as many people as possible. We studied
the Disability Discrimination Act for
accessibility, due to be enforced in
October 2004, and consulted with various
experts and guidelines in these fields.
ZyWeb was designed so that it could
be used by a wide range of devices,
including computers, webTVs, personal
digital organisers, mobile phones, etc.
unlike many of its competitors. ZyWeb's
compatibility together with its unique
fully customisable graphics and templates,
and photo editor makes it a compelling
tool for anyone who wants to create,
publish and maintain their own website.

The
Want family don't want money! -
May 2004 |
The Want family from South Wales chose
ZyWeb as their website builder to publish
a record of their lives over a 100 day
period. ZyWeb was chosen because of
its ease of use, customisable templates
and photo editing tools. The social
and creative experiment is to find out
about a 'typical British family' and
it has become clear that the Wants do
not want money, nor do they want international
fame. They would much rather spend their
time caravanning or improving the garden.
Selected from hundreds of applicants
after a six-month national search by
Epson, the company behind the experiment,
the Want family were keen to find out
about new photographic and publishing
technology.
Armed with state of the art digital
cameras and ZyWeb, they set about their
task. The Wants have spent 100 days
photographing each other almost constantly,
in a 'fly-on-the-wall' style, during
every activity of their 'typical' lives.
Each night they uploaded digital pictures
of their day on to their internet site
built in ZyWeb www.zyworld.com/niclaswant/
